From the Queen

Hello ladies

First of all a big THANK YOU to those of you who contributed to a birthday present for me; it was very unexpected. The campanula is beautiful and braving the rain at the moment! And yesterday I went into Waterstone’s (sorry – I know they’ve decided to do without the apostrophe now, but it is so wrong!!). I’d been having a think about what to buy and I have been promising myself a new atlas (I know, sad) for a while. My old one still has USSR etc and is over 30 years old. So I took a new one to the counter and found I have a lot of change! So I can go mad now, except I need to think again of what I want. It is as much fun thinking about what to get as actually buying it! I lead a very sheltered existence, as you can tell! And thank you to Guinevere (Jenny P) for arranging it.
So thank you again, and I must go now – I’ve just discovered exactly where Estonia is  and I am now going to see if I can find where my friend Dulcie is living on the street map of Budapest!

Love, Diane

Are We Back?

Well something has worked but not sure what hahahaha.  We now have the Home Page, the About Us page and the Events page where they should be!  Photos may take a little longer but I am working on it.

To anybody visiting our website, I apologise for the high level of incompetence displayed in maintaining this website, we are not all barmy, only me.  Regards, Val S

A Word from the Queen ………….

Hello Roses

Happy New Year to you all.

2011 was a bit of a mixed bag for us so here’s hoping that 2012 ROCKS!

We had some interesting outings and activities last year: cinema, butterfly farm, Quex Park (house and museum, and gardens on another day!) Seasalter with Gill, pottery and lots of different place to eat, mostly excellent with the outstanding exception of Riggings in Herne Bay!! And we did several other things as well: and some of us did beading with Ingrid.

We have had some very sad and difficult times, as when Viki lost Gerry and then we lost Lee, both to cancer, that vicious disease. We have had broken bones with Dee, Jenifer and Barbara and various other ‘troubles’ but we look forward to a healthy and happy 2012.

So, what do I have in store for you? I will be sending you a list soon but we have the Red Hat weekend in Norfolk to look forward to, and I have several ideas such as another trip on the Kentish Lady to the Museum of Kent Life – we won’t eat off paper plates with plastic cutlery at the Malta Inn, Sandra, I promise! I also thought another visit to the Turner Centre as it now better than when we went before! Also if we get enough interest maybe a trip on the Tenterden railway. And of course we will lunch or go for tea. I have tried to find things to do from ‘What’s On in Kent’ but very little happens on Wednesdays!! Any ideas please let me know.

But whatever we get up to we know it will be with friends and it will be fun. So for 2012 let’s all be positive, supportive and cheerful!

With love to you all

Queen Diane

A Poem by Lee Matthews

Red Hats

By Lee Matthews

Red Hot, sorry, Red Hat ladies,

Always on the go, fun’s the order of the day.

Say ‘yes’ to every suggestion, never dare to say ‘no’!

So what shall we do today?

Well, let’s see.

Lunch in some posh restaurant?  Or, perhaps, a trip on the sea.

A visit to a museum, lunch afterwards

Sounds good to me.

So let’s don our feathered hats

And purple attire with pride.

We’ll show off to the public

Where we know we’ll be admired!

We’ll wine and dine and be ready to rave.

We’ll flirt with every good-looking male!

We’ll dance and sing, try everything

Who cares about ‘behave’!

So come on Red Hat Roses of Kent

What better way can time be spent?

I can’t think of any I know

So, come on ladies, Ready, Steady, Go!
